Emergency IconRansomware continue to impact organizations throughout the world and NSHE institutions are not immune.  The general advise is not to pay the ransom as this confirms to cybercriminals that their ransomware works and there is never a guarantee that you will get the decryption key you need in return.   The No More Ransom Project is a collaborative effort created by the National High Tech Crime Unit of the Netherlands’ police, Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre and two cyber security companies – Kaspersky Lab and Intel Security.  They have provided decryption tools for a variety of ransomware variants as well as a tool that allows you to upload files to attempt to ascertain what type of ransomware you may have been infected with.

Not only do they provide tools but also sound advice for dealing with ransomware attacks.  These tools are well worth adding to your defensive capabilities to deal with these types of crippling attacks.
